A Dorset Artist and Author

Landscape is the inspiration for much of my work exploring it's hidden and often mystical qualities. I attempt to delve behind the structures of the natural world and to present some intimation of those imaginative insights.

My work includes a variety of media, often combining different techniques: watercolour, print, acrylic, crayon and oil pastel. Over the last few years with the development of digital photography, I have been exploring the beautiful world of the interiors of flowers and most recently have been engaging with the enigmatic beauty of trees. Dorset has been a source of inspiration for the paintings, photographs and the books. The wonderful landscape has led me to write and produce three, which combine my photographs and text to present a specially idiosyncratic perspective in the form of a biography of 3 particular tree species. More books on the way!

I was first introduced to Dorset about 35 years ago when I regularly used to come and stay with friends who lived in the county. We spent many magical days exploring the rugged Dorset coast, unspoilt villages and glorious rolling country side. I fell in love! This was the place I wanted to be. Life, as is often the way, had other plans in store for me and I found myself running a plant nursery with my then husband in Oxfordshire. Following the birth of my son and then divorce, I changed tack and with a grant from the Quaker movement did a 4 year training in homeopathy. I was then fortunate to be able to combine my complimentary trio of passions: plants, painting and people, from which I have drawn inspiration for living creatively.

I started exhibiting paintings in the late '80's and then latterly photography has captured my imagination when I received my first digital camera from my son as a present about 5 years ago. This new found excitement thoroughly absorbed me and painting was put on hold. However, photographic imaging has opened up new avenues of potential and I have recently returned to painting with restored passion.
